When the wizards’ caravan from the Hosttower of the Arcane saw the snow-capped peak of Kelvin’s Cairn rising from the flat horizon, they were more than a little relieved. The hard journey from Luskan to the remote frontier settlement known as Ten-Towns had taken them more than three tendays.
The Crystal Shard opens with a band of wizards traveling in a caravan near the spine of the world. The wizards trick an apprentice, Akar Kessel, into killing his wizard master with the promise of power and wizard hoods. Once the deed is complete the wizards abandon Akar leaving him to die in the frozen waste.
While fighting for survival Akar discovers an ancient artifact that takes over his mind by giving him dreams of conquest. The dreams grow into a hunger and Akar decides to gather all goblin, orc and scum of Icewall into an army with the goal of killing the people of Ten-Towns and get revenge for the way he had been mistreated his entire life. Meanwhile, Ten-Towns, a gathering of towns full of the misfits and rogues from around the globe, have problems on their hands other than Akar’s vengeful horde. Barbarian tribes are determined to conquer the settlements.
Will Regis, the Halfling leader from Lonleywood, be able to make neighboring towns forget their feuds and fight together or will they be slaughtered by the barbarians and Kessel. You can find out in The Crystal Shard by R.A Salvator. Prominent Characters Drizzt – a dark elf who left his homeland in the “underworld” who feels he has to help save the Ten-Towns
